Diamonds and pearls are a very interesting combination of jewels when set together. The diamond being the hardest gem stone of all and the Pearl being the only living gem stone. Apart from sharing individual uniqueness they also share other common but less well known attributes.
A diamond is the hardest gemstone known to man and takes hundred's of million's of years to form. For every diamond that is mined there is only a very, very small percentage that are of gemstone quality with the majority of the diamonds going to other purposes; such as being used in a wide variety of industries like IT and computer technology, and even for medical purposes.

The pearl in some countries like China and other Asian countries is also used for medicinal purposes too. It gets ground up and added to various herbal medicines to keep humans healthy. So the diamond and the Pearl share another common denominator apart from beauty in a jewellery setting.
South Sea Pearls are produced in North Australian waters from Cape York around the Australian coastline and across to Broome in Western Australia.
