Jesus hints that a personal relationship with him should be the most precious thing in your life in this parable and with many years walking with Jesus in communion, I have some insight in this parable you might not have considered.
"The Parable of the Pearl of Great Price." It is found in the gospel of Matthew 13:45-46.
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it."
First of all, this guy is a merchant, is a trader. He's a merchant seeking beautiful pearls. He is seeking beautiful pearls. Now, a person who would be seeking beautiful pearls is someone who would sell the pearls, someone who is a buyer of pearls. They'd go from place to place seeking out beautiful pearls with their little eyeglass. And they'd have a test that they put the pearl through and they compare pearl after pearl. They purchase the best pearls that they can see, that they know they can add a margin to and sell again for great profit.
Now, this merchant who's seeking beautiful pearls, not ordinary pearls, not the pearl that you get for your wife that you put around her neck, not the pearl that you get for $100, but beautiful pearls. This merchant is not seeking one pearl, but beautiful pearls, thousand-dollar pearls. He's going to resell them and make a business out of reselling pearls. This is a professional person who'd looked at thousands and thousands of pearls before he made his decisions. Yet this professional, he found one pearl. He called it the pearl of great price. He went and sold everything he owned to purchase that pearl.
Now, I want you to understand something. If someone today was in the business of buying and selling pearls, and he was in the business of buying and selling expensive and beautiful pearls, this merchant would be a multimillionaire. He would be worth a lot of money. He would be in the trade of making a lot of money, because he wasn't dealing with low-grade pearls, he was dealing with beautiful pearls. So, when it says that he sold everything he had, it would be millions of dollars. Today it would be millions and millions and millions of dollars that he sold to purchase this pearl of great price.
This is a very interesting parable. The pearl of great price that Jesus doesn't say it here, is to own Jesus Christ, to come into possession of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is saying that He is the pearl of great price. Not only is He the pearl of great price, but it is the proper understanding of his grace and his salvation and all the privileges it is that it brings with it to be called the child and the Son of God, to be adopted into the family of God. Purchasing and owning the pearl of great price is to own Jesus. Purchasing and owning the pearl of great price is being able to sign your checks with Jesus' name and authority.
What would you do to own that authority? What would you do to have a checkbook and whenever you wanted something you could just sign it and stamp it that Jesus had approved of your purchase? What would you do? How excited would you be that you could pick any desire you had that was good, not an evil desire, and Jesus would stamp it with his own authority and approval and bring that forth to you?
What would it mean to have your mind transformed so that your mind thinks like Jesus Christ, to have your Holy Spirit come into your mind, come into your heart, and start to affect your mind and you start making decisions that are full of wisdom and power and glory? What is it? What would you do to walk into a state where everyday that you live is filled with purpose? What would you do to get up in the morning, have a coffee and have a shower and by the time you finish your shower, your body would be radiating full of joy and peace and the presence of the Lord? What would you do to know your purpose in life and to be able to talk back and forth with Jesus and move in your purpose and go from step to step, bigger and bigger? What would you do? What would you give to know your purpose to live in your purpose and have all your dreams come true? What would it be worth to you?
If I said I wanted your car, I wanted your TV set, if I said I wanted $2000, send me $2000 and I'll put you into a state where you know your dreams and destinies and all your prayers would work and everyday you'll walk in the presence and manifest the glory of Jesus Christ, you'd be able to walk and do miracles and signs and wonders, how much would you send me if I could guarantee that?
If that didn't start to manifest in 30 days in your life, if the presence of God didn't fill you with massive joy and peace within 30 days, I'll double your money and double your thousand dollars back. Would you do that? If I was a bank, if I was someone that wasn't going to disappear overnight, that's always going to be here, and you had a written contract, peace and joy of the Lord and purpose and my purpose and destiny revealed to me within 30 days or double my money back, would you take me up on that if I was someone big and worthwhile that's not going to disappear? You'd be a fool if you didn't. And don't tell me you haven't got a thousand dollars. You know someone with a thousand dollars. You'll not only tell me, you'll tell them and they'd all invest. It would be the greatest investment ever.
Well, I'm not just telling a story. I'm telling a parable of a parable. Jesus has already done it. The peace and the joy and the anointing and the purpose and the meaning of life and the happiness and the joy to be living is already there. It's already purchased. It's already available. You've just got to stretch forth your hand and take it. You've just got to know how to take it. First of all, you've got to know that it's there for you. Then you've got to stretch forth your hand and take it. First of all, I suppose you'd have to know how to take it. Telling you that it's available and it's there and you can just take it isn't good to you if you don't know how to take it. I make it one of the aims of my ministry to show you how to take it.
So, have you ever heard the parable of the pearl of great price sounding like that? Would you sacrifice something expensive to get to where I am, to live with the joy and the presence of the Lord each day? How would you like to feel the best you've ever felt at church in praise and worship, or someone's been preaching and really filled you with the presence of God? How would you feel to feel that peace and joy all the time? How would you like to feel to feel that peace and joy every day of your life from sun up to sun down? How would you like it, no matter what circumstances or trials you're in, that the peace and the joy was still with you? How would you like to know your destiny, to know your purpose and to know how to get there and achieve it?
These are all possible. This is all possible with a relationship with Jesus, the pearl of great price. You'd do anything to get that. Jesus is worth it. Jesus is worth everything that we have.
