One of the things we like to do as adults is to tell the younger ones what life was like when we were young. So many things in life change and as we grow older the changes seem to become more and more radical.
In many ways we were locked into traditions that didn't change. You had to do things a certain way. Birthday parties, Christmas, Thanksgiving and Baby Showers all operated according to a set formula. However things change and if its for the better then that's o.k.
Take the baby shower and baby shower decorations. Major changes have and are taking place. It used to be that the shower was held several months before the birth. The guests were limited to close family members, relatives and just a few friends. Today that has all changed and the doors have been opened wide for a wide range of participants and ideas.
It is becoming popular for Mums and Dads to attend. Men, attending a shower! I actually think it is a great idea to have men at a shower. Why should they miss out? You can have a barbeque shower today with all the family members and it wouldn't be seen as strange. So let's get onto the baby shower decorations.
Now to me it doesn't matter who comes to the party, what they have to eat and drink I think that baby shower decorations either make it or break it, I like the decorations to be special, clever, inventive or cute. When we had our first shower one of my friends offered to help with the decorations she just happened to be a bit of an expert at origami. Talk about dexterous with her fingers she was just amazing.
She made some special corsage like presentations. They had pacifiers in the middle. They had small colorful red and green silk flowers twisted together to form a cone. Around the outside of the cone she wrapped gold foil and tied it off with a red ribbon. The ribbon wound itself around the base of the pacifier and came out through the loop. Attached to one side of the gold foil was a diaper pin which had a small pearl (not real) inserted along the pin. They were magnificent. The best baby shower decorations I have seen for years.
I said to my friend what we need to do is to capitalize on your special skills. She said to me what do you mean? I said, look can you make a cot or cradle with Origami. She said yes and her eyes lit up. She knew what I was thinking.
She set to work making a half a dozen cots about five inches by two inches. We covered each of them with foil and made small paper legs. We wrapped red and yellow ribbon across the top to simulate a kind of quilt. In the centre we placed a pacifier with small silk flowers attached to the base. Then we finished the presentation as we sprayed the whole cot with glitter. The looked a real treat.
A baby shower is a joy for all. It probably means most for the mum's to be and is a very special day indeed. If you can be creative and make something yourself or with a friend then go ahead and do it as provides the personal touch.
Hand made means something very special a part of your heart as opposed to something off the shelf. It doesn't have to be as elaborate as my friend made if it is made from the heart then your decorations will be accepted as the best baby shower decorations ever.
